Girl in the Snow is out now!

It’s release day for my latest Christmas romcom novella, Girl in the Snow. Hooray! It’s two months till Christmas and the countdown is on. Do you have enough books for the holidays? You know you need more . . .

Book release day is a little odd for me as an Australian author, since we’re about 15 hours ahead of somewhere like New York. I essentially get two release days, with Australia and New Zealand first while the rest of the world is asleep! This exhausted author is madly trying to pre-schedule posts and drive teens around while drinking enough coffee to drain Brazil dry. But I’m so glad my newest little book baby is out in the world.

Today, release day number one, I thought I’d share an excerpt of this story for my lovely readers. I hope you enjoy it!

Excerpt – Girl in the Snow

Chapter One

Heathrow Airport, London, UK

Two days before Christmas

Deanna wandered through the airport terminal in a haze of confusion and unshed tears. She dragged two suitcases behind her and tried to blink her vision clear, as she ducked and weaved through groups of people queuing for check-in, security or milling around.

She’d found herself at Heathrow without a plan. This wouldn’t come as a complete shock to anyone who knew her. Deanna was a last-minute decision, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of girl. As a flight attendant, she was generally happy to go wherever the wind took her. But this was different. She had no clue what she was doing with the rest of the holidays, let alone the rest of her life, or where she was going to live it.

The long and the short of it was: she had to get away.

It was nearly Christmas, awfully late in the season for making plans. Still, she had to try. Staying in London all by herself, with the echoes of missing family, was too much to deal with. But where should she go?

She came to a stop, biting the inside of her cheek, and stared up at the flight information board scanning the list of upcoming departures. Her eyes caught on the latest update: New York. A flight departing in a couple of hours. That was an option…

The clock was ticking if she wanted to make it somewhere, anywhere, by Christmas. She no longer had to move to London, and Mermaid Airlines management, aka her soon-to-be ex-employer, could metaphorically go jump without a parachute.

Deanna’s manager hadn’t given her time off when she needed it, hadn’t listened when she explained her need to move to London, so now they could suck it. Their offer? Re-locate to the middle of nowhere. No, thank you. Okay, Hanoi wasn’t really in the middle of nowhere, but she didn’t want to live there.

Deanna had narrowed down her options to moving elsewhere in the UK or maybe heading back home to Australia. Her aunt in Sydney would put her up for a while, but the US was also a possibility. She had friends in New York, and some decisions to make.

Should she stay or should she go?

The old punk song by The Clash ran through her head as she tapped her foot in her platform sneakers.

Her gaze fixed on the flight information. New York. She could go to Winterbourne Lodge. It was only a few hours’ drive from the New York airports. She’d forgotten about the lodge, or maybe she’d blocked it from her mind. Now, she couldn’t shake the idea that she was supposed to go there.

Something about the idea of New York at Christmas rang a little bell in the back of her mind. Not staying in the city, but nearby, in the snow. Having a real white Christmas appealed to the little girl inside the woman. She wrapped her Burberry trench coat a little tighter around her waist . . .

It’s release day for Hot and Frosty: A Firefighter Christmas Anthology. I can’t wait for everyone to read and enjoy this collection of new romance stories, ranging from sweet to steamy, from 12 fantastic Australian authors (me included!) publishing together.

I’ve been excited for a while about this one, especially because as an author, one of my smaller goals is coming to fruition. Did you know, I’ve always wanted a book with shiny foil printing on the cover? For real! Some of my favourite authors have these pretty editions with sparkly font, and now I’m finally getting one I can call my own. At least partly, since I’m one of 12 authors involved. I’m still claiming it! Achievement Unlocked!

Special Editions

I have a limited quantity of pretty, foil-printed special edition books with gorgeous sprayed edges for sale. Australian readers can purchase a special edition direct from me via my Paperback Store – check out my other signed paperbacks while you’re there.

Sorry to international readers, this item is only available in Australia. Shipping will be too expensive to be viable for this item. Standard paperbacks will be available soon from Amazon.

Blurb – Hot and Frosty

Twelve firefighters hatch a plan to raise funds for the local animal shelter in Leavenworth just before Christmas. When firefighters and cute animals are combined for a super hot calendar: what’s not to love?

As the jackets come off for the photo shoot, temperatures are sure to reach scorching!

When there’s smoke . . . it’s just passions alight, and maybe the odd building. Just add mistletoe and romance, and happily ever afters ensue.

Featured authors, in order of stories in the anthology:

Louisa Duval, Clarissa Morgan, Joanne Speirs, Sara Hartland, Sharyn Swanepoel, Savannah Blaize, Brooklyn Dean, Cassandra O’Leary, Shelley Thomson, Katie Montinaro, Sabrina Duval, and Fiona Marsden.

“Just A Spark” by Cassandra O’Leary

My new story in this anthology is “Just A Spark”. The story features Zack, a shy hero who is a lifeguard in Australia and wants to retrain as a firefighter. When visiting his sister in the “Christmas town” of Leavenworth, he meets fiery hairdresser, Jessica. It’s love at first sight! But can he overcome his nerves to actually talk to her? Let alone bare nearly everything for a charity firefighter calendar that he somehow got involved in? Hint: Jessica helps him out!

About Girl in the Snow

Girl in the Snow by Cassandra O’Leary

Trope: Forced Proximity

Deanna Michaelson is a flight attendant on a mission to get out of London before Christmas. She’s not sure where she’s going, but she’s in a hurry! There’s only two days to go until festive mayhem descends on the whole world. She ends up in upstate New York at the cute lodge she stayed at as a child, but she didn’t expect a snowstorm to hit. And she didn’t expect to get stuck with only Cal Winterbourne for company. The hot but grumpy lodge manager is not what she had on her wishlist. She didn’t expect to like him, or to want him. He’s far too appealing, and Deanna might get a present she hadn’t expected! It could be a merry Christmas indeed.

About 12 Tropes of Christmas

Several month ago, author Anna Foxkirk rounded up the “Super Tropers” (I’m one of them!) and a new concept for a Christmas romcom collection was born. 12 tropes from 12 amazing authors with 12 brand new romance stories. Whatever your trope, you’ll find a romantic story in this anthology to keep you merry and bright: from enemies to lovers, to best friend’s brothers and friends to lovers. There’s once married twice shy, and also a jilted bride. Feel the squeeze of forced proximity and the heart-in-your-mouth nerves of a fake date. Get your fix of reality TV and sports romance, grumpy/sunshine or bad boy/good girl.

There are a dozen ways to fill your stockings, from sweet to sassy to outright shocking. So forget your excuses and find your reason to fall head over heels this festive season! Take advantage of the 99 cent introductory ebook price before it goes up to $3.99 on 10th October. Paperbacks are now available too.

Cover Reveal – Winds of Change

I’m so pleased to be able to share the cover of my latest book with readers! Winds of Change: A Steamy Paranormal Romance Collection is a new anthology of paranormal romance stories, set in the fictional coastal town of San Destino, California. I’ve been keeping this project top secret for the past few months, but it’s finally time to share more widely.

This project came together over the last few months with some members of my local writers’ group in Melbourne, Australia. We decided to create an anthology set in a ‘shared world’ with some overlap between locations, characters and stories, including an inciting incident involving an overturned mail truck and of course, a little magic. There are all sorts of paranormal creatures included in the story collection, including shapeshifters, witches and warlocks, guardian angels and mermen.

Release Day for Girl on a Layover!

It’s release day for my novella, Girl on a Layover (Girl on a Plane series #2) and I’m excited, people!

Girl on a Layover novella cover image

#2 – Girl on a Layover

The ebook is out now at major online bookstores and I’ll be getting the paperback version ready to go soon. Sometimes it takes a little longer to format the paperback for print and to get the distribution channels to display the book online. Anyway, it won’t be too long for my print readers. I will also have copies available to buy at any book signing events I attend next year, including A Romantic Rendezvous in March (Melbourne, Australia)!

When Yuki met Declan . . .

There were times when I never thought I’d be able to publish any other stories in this ‘world’ and I’m so glad I finally have the opportunity. I just really like these characters and the themes of travel, finding love and a sense of home, and I hope you will too. Of course, this story is also heaps of fun.

When I released the ebook of Girl Under The Christmas Tree, the prequel novella in December 2020, I was rapt with the chemistry on the page between characters Yuki and Declan. I knew I’d have to revisit them as a couple and work out how they could get to their happy ever after, without making it too easy, because where is the fun in that?

I decided to skip ahead a few years when revisiting this series, as I’d regained the publishing rights for Girl on a Plane and wanted to extend the series. I moved forward so the events in newer books would occur in current times, more or less. When Yuki and Declan first met, I was writing about events a few years in the past, but I wanted them to meet again sooooo . . . TIME JUMP!

Six years have passed since Yuki and Declan first met, in the story timeline at the start of Girl on a Layover. Both characters have been through some stuff (no spoilers!) that have left them bruised and battered by love, in a metaphorical sense. But they are now ready for a real chance at love, and their second chance romance was a joy to write.

Blurb

Yuki Yamimoto has a problem with billionaires. If only she wasn’t stuck in a luxury resort with one billionaire in particular!

Yuki agrees to be her friend Sinead’s bridesmaid at her second wedding in a heartbeat. She’s a flight attendant and used to jetting around the world, but staying at a luxury resort in Thailand for Sinead and Gabriel’s renewal of vows sounds amazing – like a mini vacation. The only problem is. . . Declan Moriarty.

Years ago, Yuki and Declan shared a mind-blowing one-night stand and a few weeks of bliss, and then nothing. Nada. Was it all a dream? Or a nightmare? Because he cheated on her with his ex-fiancée and Yuki left before he could break her heart. Declan was Yuki’s big fish, the one who got away. An Irish IT geek and billionaire built like a pro rugby player with bonus soulful blue eyes and dark wavy hair.

Yuki has a sinking feeling Declan will also be at the resort for the wedding celebration. Declan is a good friend of Gabriel’s after all. But she won’t have to hang out with him, surely? Yuki doesn’t believe in second chances anymore. Besides, Yuki’s just been dumped and humiliated and all she wants is rest and relaxation on this layover.

Declan no longer believes in love. In fact, he’s probably cursed. Yuki isn’t the only woman who ran from him or broke his heart. When he sees Yuki at the airport, he can’t take his eyes off her. She’s as gorgeous as ever. Maybe his luck is changing. Another fling might be just what fate has in mind!

A feel-good, second chance romcom novella with steamy scenes. And a monkey. This book is #2 in the Girl on a Plane series.
